I feel like half of my life conversations center around food.

They either happen over food, are about foods I’ve eaten, about foods I want to eat. I figure why shouldn’t I write about food, too?

Scouting out great eats is a talent of mine (too bad I can't put that on a resume) and sharing the wonderful dishes of the world should be considered my love language. Today I wanted to share my recent yummy finds from my May 2019 trip to London. Yes, I was only there three days, but I definitely had my fair share of amazing food!

Tucked away in Covent Garden, Cinnamon Bazaar is an inventive Indian restaurant serving up the most amazing samosas. All the food was vibrant, flavorful, and perfectly executed, but these samosas were something else. We were lucky to get a table at the bar (the cocktails were equally as impressive, for the record) so definitely make a reservation. The interior is beautifully and colorfully decorated and has a small plate concept – come hungry and don’t pass up on the samosas!

Nutella is good. Kit Kats and Oreos are delightful. Ice cream might be the best thing in the world. Mix them all together and stuff it inside an airy bubble-waffle cone? I had no idea heaven could exist on earth until devouring this beauty at Bubblewrap in Chinatown. Tucked between a bubble tea shop and a Chinese restaurant, it would be easy to miss this little shop whipping up these unique ice cream cones if it weren't for the line out the door. Be patient and you’ll be rewarded with your own custom creation you never thought possible!

When in Rome (errr London), right? Tourists usually hit up whatever pub they stumble upon to get a taste of this famous English dish. Do yourself, and your taste buds, and favor by scouting out The Mayflower, which is across the Thames in Rotherhithe. Not only is it one of the oldest pubs in London steeped with history, it’s away from the touristy hustle of the city and serves up truly sensational food. Having had a lot of fish and chips in my life, this sticks out as one of the best. Make a reservation and you’ll be delighted with this charming and quaint pub.

Yeah, I have a more than slight obsession with ice cream. But this gelato deserves a shout out or ten. Often making the Best of London lists, La Gelatiera churns up unique gelatos and sorbets in an inviting shop in Covent Garden. Flavors sell out quick but if you get a chance to sample the honey, rosemary, and orange flavor, do it. It’s an inventive combination that gave me all the Greek Isles vibe. The chili chocolate and salted caramel flavors are also winners.

Arguably the most 'grammable restaurant in all of London, the Ivy Chelsea Garden is famous for its floral entrances. I decided to go beyond the door to see if the food and drink lived up to its opulent and sought-after décor. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict was an interesting spin on the traditional dish and worth ordering. If you were planning on making a stop to this restaurant for a photo op, do yourself a favor by booking a table – the prices are surprisingly reasonable and the service was wonderful!

London is a sprawling city with restaurants everywhere you turn. Knowing the right places to go and the best dishes to try will only make your trip more memorable. These were the gems that made my taste buds do a happy dance on my latest visit – save this post for your London getaway and enjoy!
